We simplify the lives of people with food allergies.
Allergen Alarm instantly tells you if products in the grocery store are safe for people with allergies. Just scan the bar-code and know the risk for you and your loved ones!
Three plans available:
Free - Scan a barcode and get a list of safe or not safe for the major allergenes.
Month to month subscription - Create your personalized profile online and get an instant answer if the product is safe or not safe for you. Up to two allergene profiles. Advertisement-free.
Annual subscriptions - Create personalized profile online for you and your family (up to 6 profiles dependant on subscription) and get instant answers if the product is safe for each family member. Advertisement-free.
The idea comes from observations in the grocery store: Folks trying to decipher the small print of ingredients and failing, asking other customers for help.
There must be something better.
Observing the restrictions looming allergenes puts on people simply is not acceptable.
There must be something better, a solution.
The idea: Allergen Alarm App.
And for the record: No-one in my family has any allergies.
Crowd funding .... what will the funds be used for?
A start. The funds will be used to support my family and me for six months (I will be taking six month sabbatical off work).
During this time, a fully functional prototype will be built, and all what is necessary to transform this idea into a successfull application protecting it's users.
Not going to bore you with what papers I got so-and-so many years ago. What matters is who I am today, what I learned, what I know, what I believe, what I can do and where I want to go. Today and tomorrow.
One of my educations is in CS. I experienced the dot.com bubble, the Y2K and Euro change-over project in IT Infrastructures at a major European bank. Moved to Canada in 2005, citizen since 2011.
I believe in transparency, that is why I lay open what the backer's money is being used for. I believe that families should not have a disadvantage because they have "more heads", that is why there is a tier that costs the same for six or two or one.
I know that I can put together a functioning prototype. It might not have all the detailed knowledge yet, but that is learnable.
...about my partners:
First and formost, my longterm partner and team mate is my wife. As team, we have mastered many demanding situations, and then some! Statistically seen, the probability that we are still together and work together is neglectible to non-existent. Let me put it this way: The statistics are wrong.
...about our philosophy, our approach?
We see this project as bottom-up. This means we supply the idea and the concept, the customers and consumers decide if this is a product that is worth having. It will be apparent through backing of the start and the feedback. What comes after the start and the prototype is done, this will need to be seen. It depends on many factors that are at this time not tangible enough.
I believe it is worth it, the moment we can save one person from the implications of an allergic reaction because of overlooked food allergens. Additionally, if we can make the lives of only a few dozen people every day a little easier, it is worth it. What do you think? If you agree, please back us, follow us on twitter, recommend us on facebook.
...about future plans:
Our first step is to secure crowd-funding for "bottom-up" developing a prototype application around this idea. The second step is to develop this into a business. Future steps include extension of this idea also for pet food allergens.
